Review of Green Lantern (2011) by Andrew M — 04 Mar 2015
I'll start by saying that I am a fan of the Green Lantern character and the comics. I didn't expect much going into this movie and it wasn't terrible. Still, it wasn't a great movie by any means.
For the most part, it was true to the comics and may even seem confusing to those who aren't familiar with the story. I enjoyed the first half of the film, but it seemed to just go downhill from their.
Ryan Reynolds isn't a bad actor, but he was such a generic choice for Green Lantern and they seemed to write the character around his shtick rather than being true to the character of Hal Jordan. Blake Lively was a very annoying Carol as was Michael Clark Duncan as Kilowog.
Other than that, I thought the casting was alright...Sarsgaard is a good actor, but maybe not for Hector Hammond. Overall, I just thought the movie was pretty cheesy in a lot of parts and was made for the typical movie crowd.
The special effects weren't too impressive and they were overloaded. They crammed a lot into an hour and 45 mins, and yet I still managed to be bored at some parts...how does that work? I'll finish by saying it would best for those who haven't seen it to spend your money more wisely and go see Super 8 instead! If you do, in fact, wish to see green Lantern, simply go in with low expectation and you should be fairly entertained.
