Review of Greater (2016) by Kevin C — 26 Aug 2016
Greater is a movie the whole country will want to see because of its triple threat appeal. Sports fans will love it for the on field action created by real athletes that simulated practices and games blended with actual game films artfully weaved into the story. And who doesn't love a good old fashion triumphant underdog tale. Finally, for the faith-based viewer, this movie addresses one of the great questions that every Christian, Jew and Muslim grapples with - why do bad things happen to good people.
It made me laugh. It made me cry. It made me think. What else can you ask of any film. David Hunt and Brian Reindl worked every dollar to create a movie that Hollywood would be proud of but on an independent's budget. You'll be shocked by the cinematography, the editing and the incredibly clever story vehicle. This is a must see so that America can see more films like it.
PS - This may be Fred Lehne's best work. He portrayed coach Bender so well, he may be receiving coaching offers as well as acting roles as a result of this movie.
PPS - Leslie Easterbrook should get an Oscar if only for the scene at Barbara Burlsworth's house when she learned of Brandon's death.
