Review of Great Expectations (2012) by Cynthia S — 28 Nov 2012
Having never studied this at school before, nor read his books nor watched any previous adaptations, this is my first encounter with Charles Dickens. I read a synopsis of the book after I came back from the cinema and think that for those who have read the book before, the film probably doesn't live up to expectation (excuse the pun!).
Going back to the film, Helena Bonham Carter was great as the quirky Miss Havisham, and even when Magwitch becomes more of a gentlemen Ralph Fiennes still scares the hell out of you. However my favourites were definitely the young Pip and Estella, both were so innocent and pure.
