Our generations, our film versions equvalent of Ernest Hemingways "The Old Man and The Sea". The story of survival is simple and focused. How do humans manage to survive this existance. All the allusions to the answer to the question were peppered through the film. The images of religion. The images of the alcohol. George Clooneys constant story telling. The stories our brain tells us to motivate us. (i.s. when she imagines clooney re-entring the small ship she is, and wakes up re energized to fight for her life). Sandra Bullock performance is among the greatest performances ive ever seen on screen.

The writing kept the story tight and focused and I loved that. It had a bump when she explains her backstory, her exposition, of her daughter, giving her charcter the depth that it needs. It felt clunky and unnecessary at the moment, but later on, totally pays on, and is needed.

Visually, just completly stunning. But the visuals are held up and can not exist with out the equally stunning sound scape. The moments when you heard nothing but the vaccuum in space, the nothingness, the isolation because no one is there to hear her screams and her screams cant even travel in space.... were literally breath taking. The theatre was totally packed, and people couldnt even eat their popcorn because they didnt want to make a sound and because they were os engulfed.
