Review of Grave Encounters (2011) by Paul C — 09 Oct 2011
A huge disappointment... Despite a solid first act (perhaps a little overacted, but it seems that is what they were looking for) and some decent performances , "Grave Encounter" turns out to be a "REC"/"Blair Witch Project" ripoff. During the second act, it starts getting a little over itself; it throw some ideas which are not necessarily good. Its weakest point is definitely its last act which gets repetitive, boring and somewhat scare-free. It's a shame really; it could have been a great movie - it has decent unknown actors, a nice set, etc.
Despite its errors and flaws, "Grave Encounters" is still watchable.
Unfortunately, the viewer may have the feeling the directors made everything they could to ruin this flick. Instead of keeping it simple, they added a lot of special effects (which are not that good) which don't really go well with this sort of camera work.
Basically, a good premise crushed by bad ideas.
