Review of Grave Encounters (2011) by Sergi F — 22 Apr 2013
Although it starts out as a dead-on (and funny) takedown of the glut of paranormal investigation shows that have become so popular over the past few years, the film eventually devolves into something far less interesting - your standard "found footage" type chiller that gets most of its mileage from loud noises and jump scares.
The opening, mockumentary-ish section is quite good, but the transition into full-blown horror isn't very successful; however, I must add that the film does manage to introduce one interesting concept that I've never seen before in a haunted house story, but it's not enough to keep the movie from devolving into a dull, repetitive affair, complete with lots of running, screaming, and frantic camera work.
Not the worst of this kind of thing, but it's not very good, either.
