Review of Grand Hotel (2008) by Ryan D — 03 Aug 2005
2001: A Space Odyssey.
Kubrick can direct nearly any genre in a perfect way. 2001 is one of the greatest Science Fiction films, but I feel it is a little slow at times. The beginning two hours are simply incredible, but I really don't like the whole 'psychedelic' 15 minutes when David Bowman enters the monolith. That's my only real complaint. Other than that the film is pure genius.

A Streecar Named Desire.
A Streetcar Named Desire is based off of the Tennesse Williams play of the same title. Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh both do a fantastic job pushing this film to new heights. But I really feel the best performance is by Marlon Brando. The story is interesting, and pulls the viewer in instantly. This has instantly become one of my favorites.

Grand Hotel.
"Grand Hotel" never for one second lost my interest. The entire cast (Greta Garbo, John Barrymore, Joan Crawford, Wallace Beery, and Lionel Barrymore) does a brilliant job throughout the whole film. The story is very interesting and pulls you in almost immediately. Too bad not as many people watch this as there should be. It's probably the best movie of the 30's and easily one of the best ever made.

Children of Paradise .
Children of Paradise has a very interesting story, but again, I feel it seems to drag a little bit at times, and is many a bit too long. The performances are all solid, are can be quite unique. All in all, it's a great French film, but I feel it's not as good as some other's say it is.
Rating: 88.

All About Eve.
Wow, this movie blew me away. Not only is the story amazing, but the acting is also incredible. I had heard that this was a great movie, but I was stunned at how good this really was. I was always wanting to know what would happen next. The script was also amazing, all these subtle little jokes and excellent writing. There's not much more to say about this film, other than it is perfect. .
