Review of Grand Hotel (2008) by Hayley D — 26 May 2010
It's the cliché 1930s movie, but whose says that's a bad thing? It's not the best film ever, but I found it enjoyable mostly because of the glamour, the stars, and the whole art deco vibe.
It was the first time I've actually watched a movie with Greta Garbo and Joan Crawford in it. It pains me to say that Joan Crawford was really adorable in it. (I'm not a big fan of her, I've seen Mommy Dearest.
) In addition, I didn't think Garbo was all that good of an actress, too over-dramatic and had a really strong accent that was difficult to understand. It had a good, basic story line, and if you want to experience the fun of Hollywood's Golden Age, Grand Hotel is the movie to see.
