Review of Grand Canyon (1991) by Gadi C — 08 Mar 2008
A very well-produced film that revolves around the way in which fate and the people we know affect our lives. Very well acted, and the story is involving, but it does move around a bit. It centers primarily on Kevin Kline, his marriage, his parenthood and the chance meeting he has with a lifesaving tow truck driver played by Danny Glover.
The film makes no grand statements about life; instead, it comments on the vastness and bigness of the universe and the small but important part we all play in the grand scheme of things, hence the title.
Plus, there's a helicopter that continually flies in and out of scenes, and I'm still not sure what director Lawrence Kasdan was trying to do with that. I've got several ideas, but that little symbol is more suited for an academic paper than for this lighter forum.
A good rental if you're feeling thoughtful.
