Review of Gran Torino (2008) by Danny O — 15 May 2015
Gran Torino is a great and unique film. Clint Eastwood is so good as the character Kowalski, and the other characters you really do feel for. The story is that a war veteran learns to care for his Hmong neighbors and become almost a father figure to them.
It has great acting and solid direction. The script has some great moments, but some dull ones as well. Most of the movie is Kowalski's bond with his troubled young neighbor, and it works really well, if a bit drawn out.
It's a bit cheesy at times, but the ending is smart and powerful, and pretty emotional. It's a very well made film I highly recommend. Gran Torino gets 4/5 stars (A-).
