Review of Grace Is Gone (2007) by Luisfelipe Z — 20 Jun 2009
This was a very emotional movie about a father named Stanley, played wonderfully by John Cusack, who is left alone to take care of his two daughters after his wife is killed serving in Iraq. The movie could have taken a softer approach with John Cusack's character desperately searching for a replacement "mom" and then starting to fall in love again.
Instead, the focus went deeper around Stanley's overwhelming grief, insecurities about raising his daughters and how to tell them that their mother was never coming home again. It was slow paced at times, but many touching scenes especially involving the sacred synchronized watch bond.
This movie really showed that pieces missing in our lives can always fit back together, not exactly how we had imagined, but still in a beautiful way.
