Review of Grabbers (2012) by Ruby H — 02 Mar 2014
Grabbers is a Sci-fi horror comedy, much like Tremors, but set on remote Erin Island, Ireland. The story's brilliant angle is that alcohol is poison for the monster and so the islanders need to get and stay drunk.
The film's low on horror and very by-the-numbers but it's charming nonetheless. For such a low budget project the special effects are impressive. There's great characters and Ruth Bradley is gorgeous. The mostly dialogue-based jokes I found funny and smart. The anticipated mega piss-up is a let-down, happens about the middle, and the film actually drags a bit there. But overall this is a pretty cool little indie and well worth a watch.
