The Lynch homage is an obvious one, but I think Miike actually does some interesting things with the material he's working with. It might not accomplish the same degree of moodiness as Lynch, but there are some definite areas of "wtf" that are at the very least noteworthy.
Unfortunately you'll probably never look at a soup ladle or a glass of milk the same way after seeing it.
