Review of Goya's Ghosts (2006) by Peter L — 06 Mar 2009
I just saw Goya's Ghosts last night. I was extremely entralled with the film. Not only was it impressively produced- costumes, set design, music and cinematography, but well acted.
I think it is the best of all the artist bios- and there are some good ones: Lust for Life, Pollack, Basquiat, etc. These films highlight the artists' own demons. In this case we experience how Goya's art was borne out of necessity (patron portraiture) and his better and mores expressive art as response to living history swirling around him.
The film has big historic sweep but is also painfully personal. I loved it! .
