Review of Gothika (2003) by Casselise R — 15 Jan 2012
It will keep you guessing, that's for sure.
A story of a brilliant psychologist who wakes up as a patient in the institution in which she works, Gothika will keep you riveted to the edge of you seat. Although this movie did not terrify me, I could see how it may scare others. It is a film that delves into the supernatural, but does not feel the need to saturate itself with predictable ghost storylines. It displays what it needs to for the purpose of the storyline, and leaves the rest to you own imagination, which can be scarier in itself.
Berry plays the role consistently, and draws you into the plotline effectively.
Once you begin watching this film, it will not be something you can not simply switch off without wanting to discover the conclusion, which, in my opinion, is the basis of a true thriller.
Not groundbreaking, but an easy watch.
RECCOMMENDATIONS.
CHILDREN: Under no circumstances, should they need to watch this.
RELIGION: No blasphemy, but it does have a supernatural storyline. Depending on you're religion, you may wish to pass this one by.
Watch it if you liked: Amnityville Horror.
