Review of Gosford Park (2001) by Kate G — 19 Mar 2008
I am embarrassed to admit I did not care for this because - given the near-universal acclaim - I feel I might have missed something. The more I think about it, though, the more I realize that I could see the social commentary and I could appreciate the unique spin on a tired and dead genre.
Still, all that was rather meaningless because Altman's infuriatingly aloof direction limited the means by which his characters might achieve any real depth or empathy. As an Altman novice, I found this to be a sore disappointment.
