Review of Gorgeous (1999) by Mikael S — 10 Dec 2007
If you're looking for a good Jackie Chan movie, rent Gorgeous. The basic plot is a cheesy love story, but hiding behind it is a great big cartoon starring Jackie Chan. Jackie plays a billionaire playboy corporate raider type (which means the dubs are even funnier than usual -- the actor they got to do Chan's lines has a great Cheesy Leading Man voice).
In between doing corporate stuff and falling in love, he has to deal with his best friend/archenemy, who of course has a band of comical thugs. It doesn't have as many big stunts as most Chan flicks, but it more than makes up for it with goofy characters and great fight scenes.
The final fight scene is probably the funniest non-cartoon cartoon fight I've ever seen. The lack of big stunts also means the outtakes are pretty sparse, which is a shame, since they're often the best part of a Chan movie.
Overall, though, well worth the price of admission.
