Review of Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween (2018) by Dan S — 20 Oct 2018
As a kid I was huge fan of these books and somewhat still am today. So when the first Goosebumps movie came out I was very skeptical. Long story short I enjoyed it. So when they announced I sequel I still had some fairly low expectations and it seems that was very smart of me.
So I'm gonna start off with talking about what I enjoyed about this film. The first thing I would like to recognize is that it stuck to some of its source material for Slappy and a feeble others. For example with summoning of Slappy I liked how they added that in.
I also liked the nods to some of STINES other books. Also bringing in the Haunted Mask which I thought was a nice touch. Other than laughing a couple of times, there was really nothing else for me in this film.
I wasn't a huge fan off the main cast and how I really didn't feel for any of them. The only person I liked was Jack Black's role of R.L. Stine who I felt was the highlight of the original.
The fact that he only has a 5 minute screen time, and I wasn't to happy about that. I felt as the script was lazy at some points in the movie. The formula I felt to be very similar to its predecessor.
I felt the story was very rushed and the main plot to be very ridiculous. So I would recommend this film if you have any children that need to be entertained, but I feel as this movie is a hit-or-miss .
