The laughs come incredibly often in Goon, but you'll be hardpressed to actually call it a comedy when the credits roll. The film tells the story of a bouncer who is unhappy with his job, so he tries out for the local hockey team, only to find out that his brutish nature carries him farther than he expected.

Now, yes, this is considered a comedy and the jokes are as hilarious as they are vulgar and incredibly profane. However, once it's over, one can't help but wonder whether it was a comedy at all.

The violence is brutish and barbaric, but never excessive and it's often played up just a tad for laughs. The acting is pretty good, most notably from Sean William Scott, who delivers a performance that is definitely outside of his usual comedy comfort zone.

The film is a definite by the numbers sports fiom, but it is much more than that. It's hard to explain with words, but anyone who watches it will immediately know what I mean. Please excuse my rambling, I'll get back on track.

The film is incredibly enjoyable, if not insanely, some would say excessively, brutal and vulgar, but it all serves its purpose when the credits begin.
