Review of Goodnight Mommy (2015) by Christopher V — 30 Dec 2015
This movie is entirely based on very tired and transparent premises, which are immediately obvious and deliver exactly the lackluster non-story that you think in the opening minutes. Not a surprise or a twist in evidence, just a couple of pathetic tropes linked together in an unconvincing manner. The movie looks great. Technically, it's fine. The acting is fine, though it's clear the director doesn't understand the story either, because even a minimal attempt to dimensionalize this stupid script is not made. The cinematography is excellent, but anyone can make pretty pictures. Miss this if you've seen a thriller or horror film in the last 25 years, because you'll see through the flimsy plot devices within, literally, moments of the opening. Unfortunately, the premise alluded to in the trailer is never explored at all, and so someone needs to pick that up and make that movie, because these idiots sure as hell didn't. I have no idea what most of the critics who have 'reviewed' this movie are talking about. They could not have even seen it, because the movie is nothing like anything which the positive reviews describe at all. They watched the TRAILER, and reviewed that.
If you need to waste 1:40 on something, make it something with the potential to entertain.
