Review of GoodFellas (1990) by Kyle C — 06 Jun 2013
Roger Ebert once called GoodFellas "the best mob movie ever" and he couldn't be any more right. Martin Scorsese truly crafted a superb film here, the acting is top notch (especially Ray Liottas and Joe Pescis),the directing is excellent and the dialogue is fiery and memorable.
And plus, who can ask for a more memorable opening scene? Sure, The Godfather can be called a "better" film in general, however no one can argue that as a gangster film it is as raw and realistic as GoodFellas.
Even though the story has been told many times before, a normal man dreams of being a gangster, he rises to the top and then eventually falls down, GoodFellas improves on all of them and gives you a story and characters that suck you in and make you actually care about what is happening on the screen.
This film is truly a masterpiece and only one of the highlights of Martin Scorsese's extraordinary directing career.
