Review of Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939) by Aeon S — 06 Feb 2007
Goodbye Mr. Chips is so enduring and respectful to the hardest job in the world, that of teacher. Robert Donat has the role he was born to play, he makes it look so easy, so natural, so much fun to be loved by so many young boys.
He treats them all as his boys, which is so heart warming and kind. He never has any children of his own but his "boys" make up for that in a big way. Sam Wood's direction in this film is still intensely studied.
As it should be, he made the model for many directors to follow.
