One of those films that hinges its life on a single performance, in this case Robert Donat's miraculous turn as the title schoolmaster and his life, going through all shades of emotion and not least performing flawlessly as a man three times his age, all whilst playing on the nostalgia of anyone whose ever enjoyed but a moment of school.
