Review of Good Will Hunting (1997) by Laura F — 05 Mar 2013
I just re-watched this movie after many, many years, and realized that I've never reviewed it here on Flixster. So...
It really is one of the best films of our lifetime (thus far), and is a true testament to the talent of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck (who both were only in their early twenties when they made this!).
For much of the film, the vibe is gritty and troubled, and it puts a lump in your throat. But the overall message and narrative of the film is one of hope, introspection, and the simplicity of what defines happiness. It's a must see for anyone who hasn't already seen it. It's a true classic.
ADDENDUM: It would be remiss of me to not also mention Robin Williams's performance in this film. Too often he is typecast as a one-trick pony (admittedly, oftentimes, by myself). This film serves as proof-positive that he's a true artist, and is a very gifted actor. Couple this with other films of his, like that of "The Night Listener" (I don't care what anyone says -- I liked that movie), and his talent for the art of acting becomes undeniable.
