Review of Good Night (2008) by Joseph E — 05 Apr 2008
It's all right, but besides Danny DeVito's character, everyone else is pretty unlikeable. Though I will say it's worth it for Simon Pegg. While he's pretty much unredeemable, he's at least funny as hell while he's doing it.
When he or DeVito are on screen, it's a breath of fresh air in an otherwise fairly nondescript movie. I usually enjoy Martin Freeman, but he's so beat down and ultimately whiny that I felt fairly ambivalent about what would happen to him.
And Gwyneth Paltrow is sooooo unpleasant. I think one of the reasons I ended up not caring for Freeman's character is because he would stay with someone so downright mean and self-centered. And Penelope Cruz, well, I've always been a bit mystified as to why she's considered a good actress, and her role here didn't dispel any of that.
A bit of a disappointment as the preview looked really promising. But for fans of DeVito and Pegg, definitely worth a watch.
