Review of Good Night (2008) by Michael J — 08 Jul 2008
A reasonable movie and shows enough potential that Jake Paltrow could go on to make something much better, especially if he can keep calling on sister Gwyneth to round up her friends to assemble a great cast.
The concept is very good but the execution is left wanting a little more and the ending aims for discussion initiating ambiguity so much so that it becomes a bit confused. Martin Freeman offers up a good central performance and Danny De Vito and Simon Pegg provide excellent support or relatively minor roles.
Pegg in particular is an interesting watch here, playing a very different character to his usual everyman hero role, instead being frankly an asshole to great comedy effect, so much so that when he tells his wife "I'm going to fuckin rape you" it doesn't shock but in fact offers up a little giggle.
Definitely worth a watch but certainly won't be remembered with great affection in years to come.
