Review of Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) by Luca D — 01 Sep 2014
Somehow, 'Good Morning, Vietnam' blends zany Robin Williams comedy with poignant drama with the Vietnam War as the backdrop. Williams plays Adrian Cronauer, a talented, hilarious, and charismatic radio host who is sent to Saigon to broadcast to the troops.
As would be expected, Cronauer is a hit with the troops, to the chagrin of military leadership. Cronauer initially does not find a purpose in what he is doing but as he experiences how terrible war can be, he realizes that he isn't just a voice on the radio, but is someone tasked with the responsibility of being a light to those who can only see the darkness of the times.
Williams is absolutely sensational being able to display his witty, hilarious improvisational comedy but also being able to bring his potent dramatic side out.
