Review of Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) by Ryan B — 23 May 2016
I had actually never seen this one until last night, and David and I were both blown away. Hands down one of the best movies dealing with the Vietnam War I have seen, I would say it ties with Apocalpyse now for the number one spot.
I also think Robin Williams deserved the oscar (apparently Michael Douglas beat him for wallstreet) no one else could have done what he did. My favorite thing about it was the attempt it made at showing the vietnamese perspective.
Because the vietnam war was such an awful experience for the US ever film I have seen focuses on our soldiers and the vietnamese don't come off as human, but there were great multicultural elements in this, and of course the way it was all interwoven with humor was amazing.
