Review of Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) by Callan D — 30 Oct 2017
First time watching this an adult tonight (I vaguely remember watching it with my parents as a child and having them fawn over it) and I'm struggling to take much away from it. It's one of those "feel good" movies that feels lovely and lighthearted on the surface but doesn't have much going on under that surface.
Robin Williams is a wonderfully fun maniac to watch here but there are times when it is clear that director Barry Levinson is a little too enamored with his shtick and lets him riff much longer than the pacing of the film can sustain.
This is a nice, well-intentioned film but definitely not the classic I thought I'd be revisiting.
