Review of Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) by Andy S — 24 Dec 2017
I loved the whole concept of changing, what was a serious and challenging time in Vietnam during the 60's, and making the vibes more positive and feel-good with the power of music and humor. And not only for the Americans in Vietnam, but for everyone, including the innocent Vietnamese.
That Sergeant Major is one ruthless bastard. I think its bullshit how they're trying to censor the real stuff that's happening. And the general is one awesome son of a gun. Makes me wish he was my boss and everyone else's.
Pairing the song, 'What a Wonderful World', to the scenes the were being shown, I thought was brilliant. Playing the song, which is such a lovely and beautiful song, and contrasting to scenes of chaos, horror, and violence was something very insightful to watch. Pretty inspiring.
Seeing Robin Williams in action was quite a treat and seeing him do some on the spot improv shows how great of a performer he really is.
Overall, great film with laughs and harsh realities.
