Review of Good Hair (2009) by Kathleen P — 04 Mar 2010
Smart, funny, informative, well-done. This covers relaxers, perms, weaves, extensions, and the cost of its maintenance. Great conversations in hair salons and an especially interesting conversation with black men in the barber shop.
The Bronner Brothers Hair Show in Atlanta, GA. The black hair industry and the economic ownership by Asians. The surprising part: the origins of some weave hair coming from tonsure hair sacrifice in India.
After getting extensions myself for the first time recently, it was a fun and enlightening movie. And going into religious life, it makes me think that one day I just might get a tonsure myself as a self-sacrifice and giving up of vanity.
Entertaining and educational, a great comedy-documentary.
