I've never been too interested in beauty products, so I didn't think I'd be all that interested in Chris Rock's exploration of black women's hair styles, but this was surprisingly educational.

I could have done without the scenes on the hair styling competition, which was embarrassingly absurd. But much of the rest of the film was both slyly humorous and thoughtfully revealing about our culture's vision of "beauty" and how this impacts black women and children in particular.

I was shocked to learn about the cost of weaves, and the way most of the hair used for this popular style comes from poor Indian women who donate it as a "sacrifice" to God, never seeing any monetary gain in this lucrative trade.

For the record... I think the natural look is the most beautiful!
