Towards the end the film does redeem itself a bit, but along the way it creates a huge problem that it never quite is able to overcome...caring about the happiness of its characters.

Jason Ritter is quite good as a young man who works in an L.A. video store. One day an unattractive, unfriendly, and downright unappealing and troubled young woman rents some porn. For some reason the guy is drawn to her. He goes to her apartment where she rudely dismisses him. For most of the entire film it is here being nasty and throwing mean insults his way. My main issue is we don't ever get the chance to see why the Ritter character would be drawn to her. A little more humanity would have helped the film greatly.
