Historically it could happen,endearing, funny from start to finsh. Good-Bye Lenin is a foriegn film thats eventful and thrilling.
Based in Europe just before the collapse of USSR and the berlin wall. protesters stood outside past curfew and desided to fight the system. Alex's mother is trapped in all of it, passing out into a long coma, as diehard socialist when she wakes her son pretends nothing ever changed, because he fears her heart can't take it. Alex leaves mistaken clues and missed evidence that insights Mutter(the mother) to learn the truth and she plays along until he unravels his story of Lenin and USSR.
