Review of Good (2008) by Alex H — 11 Apr 2009
I feel this film really may have been quite misread. it's quite a unique interpretation of the holocaust genre, and it's intriguing, although certainly not entirely successful. there is a staginess to it that's a bit offputting, the british accents in particular.
but if you can get past the style of the treatment, what you're essentially getting is a slightly heightened perspective - perhaps all perspective of that time was somewhat heightened in reality. this is no more evident than in the final scene and the film is almost worth seeing for this alone - the final minutes are audacious and quite brilliant but above all unsettling.
I am not often disturbed by holocaust films but there is something very unnerving about this story.
