Review of Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (2008) by Pan L — 27 Dec 2008
Panoramic (unlike Breakfast with Hunter from 2003) and quite honest documentary by Alex Gibney. Among unavoidable songs and well known materials there are few facts, anecdotes and footages to be found, even for those familiar with the legacy of Thompson.
It seems that writer's famous line ("I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me") just sounded cool, even really worked for some period of time but eventually happened to be not true.
As if 'Good Doctor' became a victim of his own lifestyle (suicide doesn't count. I share the believe it was well considered and sane act). Buy the ticket, take the ride.
