Review of Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (2008) by Jebus C — 15 Jul 2009
Alex Gibney's documentary doesn't offer much new insight into the life of Hunter Thompson and indeed skips over some rather key elements to his later life. It's nice to see his "funeral" included and the interviews were pretty candid (Pat Buchanon quoting Thompson abusing him was nice).
However there's not much here that's new. Gibney is a prolific filmmaker and that shows here. He's too concerned with wrapping his story up by 1974 leaving HST's last 31 years relatively untouched.
Still a solid enough introduction for people to learn the basics about the great man.
