Review of Gone with the Wind (1939) by Joshua T — 05 Apr 2014
A hotter version of Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz" / the crazy lady from "A Streetcar Named Desire" prances around the utopian Antebellum South with her close friend Aunt Jemima. Then war changes everything.
But in all seriousness, it's hard to dispute the enduring power of this melodrama, or the artistry of its cinematography. With the exception of Clark Gable, the acting is over-the-top, even judged by the standards of the day... And yet in spite of that, and the fact that this isn't my type of film, and its asinine politics, I still thought it was brilliant. Not one of the greatest films ever made, but still brilliant.
