Review of Gone with the Wind (1939) by Tanner B — 25 Jul 2015
-IGNORE THIS "OUT OF FIVE" RATING.
4/4.
Thoroughly fascinating Civil War epic goes on for nearly four hours but never stops moving, and never falls short of interesting. Follows a beautiful woman before, during, and after the Civil War, and her relationships with multiple men. All-time classic film revolutionized everything in movie making, and hasn't shown a hint of age. By the end it truly feels you followed a woman and understand her motives deeply. Magnificently well acted by Clark Gable and especially Vivien Leigh who develops unlike any other character in cinema history. Easy to see why many regard this as the greatest film ever made. Max Steiner's score and Ernest Haller's photography are also major assets. Eight Oscars for Picture, Director, Actress, Supporting Actress (Hattie McDaniel), Screenplay, Photography, Art Direction, and Editing.
