Review of Gone with the Wind (1939) by Ching L — 29 Jun 2011
A terrific film and I enjoyed EVERY minute of the 4 hours of it.
Besides the obvious (Scarlett O'Hara being such a beauty it's difficult to take my eyes off her baby blues), this romance captures a very interesting life story with an encouraging message behind.
Scarlett is easily one of my most loved movie character; for her grace, her charm, her aggressiveness and perseverance. She was flirtatious and cute as well as a strong independent woman, making her role so intriguing and interesting.
Many argue that the pace is too slow and the film is too long. But I think the time spent is perfectly justified for building up the atmosphere and masterfully telling the tale of the legendary Scarlett O'Hara.
The encouraging message comes in when Rhett left Scarlett alone in their big house. Being the strong woman she is, she understands that tomorrow is another day and with it brings hope.
A friend asked whether the movie ends happily. Although Rhett left Scarlett, she lost her 2 kids, and Melanie died, I think the movie ends with a hopeful note. Life may be harsh on you for today, but tomorrow is again a new day and with it brings new discoveries, new joys and renewed hopes.
