Review of Gone with the Wind (1939) by Ken S — 12 Sep 2011
There are three main quotes from GONE WITH THE WIND that really caught me: "I will never go hungry again", "Frankly, my dear; I don't give a damn", and "After all, tomorrow is another day".
Those three quotes truly define the tension and dramatic power of such a classic, memorable epic romance masterpiece. An adaptation of Margaret Mitchell's Civil War novel, even nearly four hours isn't too long to depict such marvelousness of this 1939 Hollywood gem.
When the beginning music came on and the introductory text for this film rolled in, I was thinking, "If this is going to be another one of those corny, terribly-made, ancient love stories starring people who are now dead, then please God, allow my vomit to come out well, and don't let me feel it.
" Needless to say, I didn't vomit, and I had no reason to, or else there would be a viral, four-hour YouTube video of me, sitting in front of my TV, watching GONE WITH THE WIND, a huge bucket in my lap.
All right, now the message may be really subtle, but this was a fantastic, fantastic film.
