Review of Gone Girl (2014) by Pete T — 12 Aug 2015
My anticipation for this film rose and fell as it took me a while to finally see it. I must admit I am a David Fincher fan, but once I finally got around to seeing it, my anticipation level was on the lower side. It surpassed my expectations. It was, of course very well made from a cinematic perspective. I knew it was dark, but I did not realize how darkly funny it would be. I was pleasantly surprised at the humor throughout. It feels weird to call it a dark comedy, but it kinda was.
When the film started, something felt off - I thought the dialogue was forced and the acting was robotic. That was a brilliant direction choice by Fincher as I look back on it - that was purposeful for reasons I do not want to spoil. It was supposed to make me feel that way.
