Review of Gone Girl (2014) by Bazil F — 24 Nov 2018
Gone Girl, directed by David Fincher and written by Gillian Flynn, is nothing short of a masterpiece. This film is the screenwriting debut of author Gillian Flynn, who wrote the novel. Flynn proves her screenwriting ability with smart and witty dialogue, along with very intense description.
David Fincher, who has directed many critically acclaimed films such as Seven and Zodiac proves again that he is one of the best dramatic filmmakers in Hollywood right now. Fincher flawlessly encapsulates Flynn's story, with fast paced and intense direction.
Along with the writing and directing, the performances by Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike are some of the best in their careers, In my personal opinion Pike deserved an Oscar for this role, playing the insane Amy Dunne.
I was scared when I heard that Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry were in this film because they are not usually very dramatic actors, but I had no problems with their performances. The editing and pacing also combine with everything else to create a thrilling drama.
I had no major problems with the film. Gone Girl is very unsettling masterpiece which leaves a very sour taste in your mouth many days after first viewing because of how the characters are portrayed and what they do.
