Review of Gone Girl (2014) by Robert B — 12 Jan 2016
I went into this film ALMOST COMPLETELY certain I knew the entire plot of the movie from the trailer alone... and I was abouuuuuut 80% right. the film is VERY predictable for the first 2/3 and then it finally lurches into interesting territory once it starts having parallel flashbacks.
David Fincher does a great job teasing the drama along the way though, so that's what keeps the story interesting - Ben Affleck floats the film as well, bordering between the dumb husband and victimized jaded pissed-off man.
Rosamund Pike, though, is the real interesting part of the film - her performance throughout the 2nd half is what makes the movie actually good. probably not worth the theater ticket, but definitely worth watching once it's on video.
