On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick's portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?

David Fincher´s "Gone Girl" digs into the dark psyche of marriage and the ideology behind this union, presenting a twisted story of the so called reported crime and the planning of it. I haven´t red Gillian Flynn´s book as I normally don´t go for bestellers, but since David Fincher is one of my favourite directors I wanted to see it. Fincher works his magic, but he still doesn´t go all the way like he did with "Seven" and "Fight Club". Ben Affleck is not too bad as Nick (yet way too one-dimensional), but fantastically upstaged by Rosamund Pike as the borderline psychotic Amy. While Neil Patrick Harris is completely miscasted as Desi Collings. The man cannot play anything else than Barney Stinson. However, despite the technical groundwork from Fincher and the excellent performance from Pike, the story has huge plot holes and the logic goes out the door the minute Amy "disappears". The portrait of the two sexes is so stereotypical it hurts (could write an essy on it) and to be frank quite ridiculous and there´s way too many scenes that just doesn´t add up. The end is as well mind boggling as Nick gives their marriage another chance despite murder, mayhem and full on psychotic behaviour from Amy which he is aware of. By then the film shows itself to truly not be in its own right mind.
