Review of Gone Girl (2014) by Amboy — 05 Oct 2014
Noir has to be believable at some level, and darkness should not extend to near invisibility. The film wears its trashiness like a caste mark--let's show the middle classes what gore and sex is all about.
And then the film suddenly thinks it's saying something about marriage, society, human nature. Hitchcock--are you kidding?! The master had finesse--this just has pretension and gall.
