Review of Gone Girl (2014) by Faris S — 10 Jan 2016
Undoubtably the best film of 2014. A stylish, idealistic thriller with a gritty storyline and deluding motives for the disappearance of the intoxicating Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike). Affleck and Pike were well suited for their roles, Pike especially- I personally think she deserved the best actress Oscar.
Twists and turns and truly gawping moments are stuffed into the thriller, although with the end you're waiting for the climax ending which never comes and you realise that's the better, realistic ending.
I do think that Neil Patrick Harris was extremely miscast for the role of Desi Collings as in the book he's meant to be tall, handsome and welcoming; but with Harris's Desi you get arrogant, obsessive and rude.
But Gone Girl is still David Fincher's best film yet.
