Review of Gone Girl (2014) by Rambo B — 21 May 2015
Gone Girl is the type movie with a plot line that is typical of network TV show or an Investigation Discovery episode. Roger Ebert liked the movie calling it a sick but brilliant film. I happen to agree. The classic case of man meets woman, they fall in love and get married. Lifestyle so opulent they have reputations to uphold. It is the modern marriage. It is a marriage of convenience. Of course divorce is not an option.
The movie is based on a book and it has a dark social commentary about social projections and the never ending pitfalls people find themselves in that can take something very normal and turn it dysfunctionally psychotic. I mean if two people no longer love each other; If one cheats on another; If one just simply hates the other. Just end the g*ddamn marriage!
They say marriage is a contract but ending a relationship is not as easy as getting into one. What would parents, friends, colleagues, society think? After the feelings are gone and there is nothing left to push forward there ought to be a professional escape clause.
