Review of Gone Baby Gone (2007) by Nicholas W — 23 Apr 2012
One of the reviewers feels the central moral conundrum of this story seems contrived. Well, it's fiction. It's drama. To this end, lehane has constructed an admittedly byzantine plot to frame patrick's crucial decision to stand up against cynical accomodation. Casey affleck credibly plays patrick's idealism. His belief that the end can never justify the means might be inspiring, it might be the naivete of raw youth. The story offers no firm conclusion.
Amy ryan is fantastic as the bad mom. The scene of her in the backseat of patrick's car, with the afternoon sun illuminating her ravaged and manic face is great cinema.
