Review of Gone (2012) by Luis B — 12 May 2012
Extremely silly & totally implausible 'thriller" with Amanda Seyfried as Jill. Jill claims she had been abducted by a serial killer but escaped to tell the tale. The only problem being that nobody believed her & she was commited to an institution. Upon her release she moves in with sister Molly. Molly also having her problems as a recovering alcoholic. One night returning from a nightshift at the diner she finds her sister to be missing and is convinced the killer has returned.
Again the police don't believe her so she sets about tracking both her sister and killer down herself.
And so it becomes immensely weak & everything links together for her so smoothly & simply it beggars belief. There are no twists, no turns and Jill just reels off excuse after excuse to each person she talks to as to why she's asking all these questions.
It just bumbles to a conclusion that I'm sure is supposed invoke a little shock but instead you just resent the whole movie for bringing you here in the first place. The film does not have a weak cast either which makes the absurdity of the whole thing even more inexplicable.
